Just what you want as a workshop leader  – an experienced teacher and a successful live performer.Offering workshops for festivals and community groups, Jen Hawley will tailor the session to give participants a lasting and meaningful musical experience in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.

Manouche Caravan

Gypsy Jazz for folk and blues players

So, you’ve always wanted to play gypsy jazz…
A guitar workshop for guitar players who want to explore manouche guitar playing.
Whether you’re from a blues, folk or rock background, or just want to bump up your chord repertoire, Jen will take you through those special chord shapes that give you the ‘Django’ sound.
We’ll study some classic Django tunes and look at improvising.  First time improvisers just need a blues scale and more advanced players can explore diminished runs and altered scales to give your playing that gypsy spice!
If you can play a couple of chords, then this guitar workshop is for you.  If you can play lots of chords and want to work on playing heads and improvising, then this guitar workshop is for you!

a bit about Jen….

Originally from Sydney, Jen Hawley has been teaching and performing for many years.  She started playing guitar at 16 to play in an all-girl heavy metal band.   Now you’re more likely to see Jen pulling out some jazz licks and crooning Billy Holiday ballads.  My how times change!

She trained in classical guitar, cut her teeth on the cover band circuit in Sydney when she was 18 and studied jazz with Bruce Clarke.  During the last 5 years Jen has also made a name for herself as a guitar workshop tutor at community music events such as Turramurra and Roses Gap Folk Music Camps.  Jen has also presented workshops at Port Fairy and National Folk Festivals.

Currently Jen teaches from her home studio, plays concerts and gigs with many bands, including The Great Chefs of Europe, and teaches guitar at Kingsville Primary School.

Hi Jen and the Crew,

Just a quick note to say a HUGE thankyou for your performance at our wedding on the 28th March – the gorgeous music and atmosphere your group created was just perfect, and guest after guest commented on how fantastic they thought you were. Terry as MC worked a treat! He was hilarious and my Mum just wanted to hug him! We really appreciated the beautiful range of songs you played and the effort taken to play our bridal Tango (like something out of a dimly lit Buenos Aires bar – a CD just wouldn’t have cut it). Thanks again for contributing to our truly unforgettable day, and we’ll be in touch as my Mum wants to book you for her 60th!  Kind regards, Anita and Brett Comber.

I just wanted to drop you a quick note to say thanks again for the beautiful music at our Jan 5th wedding. You were so professional and the sound was just lovely, we couldn’t have asked for anything more. I will always remember Ashokan Farewell as I came down the isle – just perfect. Emily and Shaun.

Hello to such wonderful people. We would like to thank you so much for such a fantastic day. You were brilliant and everybody loved you. It was fun having you involved in such an important day for us. Sorry to miss saying goodbye but love to hear from you as to how you thought it all went. Many, many thanks again. Maria and Christopher.

Just a quick note to say thankyou for the wonderful job that you did for our wedding. You and the band were fantastic and every one raved about you. I would thoroughly recommend you to any other couple that is looking for a versatile band with lots of class! Once again, thankyou for making our wedding reception a great party. Emily and Steve –

Thank you so much for performing at our wedding. We were very pleased with all aspects of the celebration and are grateful for the warmth and vibrancy you added to the day. We received lovely feedback from family and friends who truly enjoyed your music. Livia and Randolph,

Once again, we would like to express our appreciation for your performance at our wedding last October. We have so many nice comments from our guests about your performance. Thanks for your beautiful music and I hope I will get to see al of you again once again in the future. Duc & Hien Ho.

Thankyou so much for last Sunday. As usual you were terrific and a real highlight of the party. We had a wonderful day and really appreciated you being there and celebrating with us. Mandy and Anthony.

CIRCUS IN A SUITCASE is a 50 minute comedy circus show where the children will be taken on a journey through the brilliant and often chaotic world of circus.

Traditional circus acts take on a new twist when Terry keeps upping the stakes on himself, setting challenges that, when accomplished, are as electrifying as they are precise.

Accompanied by Jen Hawley on her snappy snare drum and unbelievably shiny ukulele, Circus in a Suitcase is a tight, spectacular, highly skilled and very, very funny circus show containing:

* masterful juggling with some surprising objects
* unicycle, stilts, and acrobatic stunts
* some pure contemporary clowning with the world’s squeakiest clown
* a towering finale featuring a tall unicycle and objects of intrigue
* continuous comedy
* lots of audience participation
* and, as always, the trademark live music.

This show is not only suitable for children and families, it’s downright beneficial!

Some acts will remain a secret until the show…
But you always get that with a clown.
